The Skygarden pendant light from the Italian company Flos is designed for diffused ambient lighting. The dominant element is a hemispherical diffuser in cast plaster with mechanical machining, which is painted white on the inside and available in four finishes on the outside: rust, gloss black, gloss white and matte gold. The plaster diffuser is fixed by a die-cast aluminium alloy structure. The upper cable grommet and fixing nut are made of black injection moulded polycarbonate, as is the grey ceiling rosette, which is painted in the colour of the lighting body. Transparent silicone dampers are used for cushioning and protection. The inner diffuser is made of frosted blown opal glass, which is fixed with a cast aluminium nut with an allodine finish. The decorative element (cutter) inside the lighting is made of photo-etched and mechanically formed AISI 304 stainless steel, which gives the luminaire a unique interior detail. The fixing to the ceiling is made of moulded and galvanised steel. The luminaire is available in two sizes, making it suitable for different sized spaces and architectural designs.

One of the most surprising elements of the Skygarden lighting is its interior decor - a delicately ornamented plaster decoration that resembles a classic stucco ceiling. This detail is only visible when viewed from below and creates the effect of a secret garden, a reference to the name of lighting itself. Designer Marcel Wanders was inspired by his own ornate stucco decoration in his home and decided to preserve it in the design of a modern lighting, thus combining classic art with modern design.

Technical precision and material diversity

Skygarden combines artisanal elegance and advanced technology - from hand-finished plaster to high-quality injection-moulded polycarbonate to blown glass and stainless steel. Each component is meticulously designed for both functionality and aesthetics, including silicone shock absorbers for protection and stability. This design precision and choice of materials makes light not only visually impressive, but also long-lasting and technically sophisticated.

Designed by Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders is a world-renowned Dutch designer and art director based in his studio in Amsterdam. He rose to fame in 1996 with his groundbreaking design Knotted Chair, which combined high-tech materials with traditional craftsmanship. In 2001, he co-founded the Moooi brand, which quickly became one of the most prominent names in design. Wanders is known for his distinctive style that combines romance, historical references and innovative materials. He works with a team of international designers in his studio and has completed more than 1,700 projects for leading brands such as Flos, Alessi, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski and Puma. His work often transcends the boundaries of conventional design, bringing elements of humanity, emotion and unexpected humour to everyday objects.
