Designed by iconic designers Achille and Piero Giacomo Castiglioni in 1960, the GattoTable light from Italian brand Flos is a symbol of a poetic approach to modern lighting. Its internal structure consists of a steel frame with a white powder-coated finish, which is coated with a special "cocoon" resin, created by spraying in liquid form. This technology, introduced by Artur Eisenkeil, allows for a diffuser with a soft and ethereal appearance, which is then protected by a transparent layer. On the supply cable there is an electronic dimmer which can easily control the intensity of the diffused light. Gatto is not only a lamp, but also a masterful experiment and one of the first timeless design works created using this unique technique.

Innovative Cocoon material

The Gatto Table was one of the first design objects to use the revolutionary Cocoon material - a liquid resin originally designed for use by the US military. It was German engineer Arturo Eisenkeil who brought it to the world of design, and it was through his collaboration with Flos that the technology was transformed into an unmistakable means of expression. The result is an organic, almost silky surface that creates a soft and diffused light with a unique atmosphere.

Iconic design by the Castiglioni brothers

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni are among the most influential figures in Italian modern design, and Gatto is a perfect example of their experimental and playful approach. The lamp not only meets functional requirements, but also acts as a sculptural object that adds character and emotion to the space. The Gatto luminaire is thus not only a source of light, but also a historical landmark that ushered in an era of light but powerfully impressive design forms.

Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1913-1968) were important Italian designers and architects who made an indelible mark on the history of modern design. Together they created dozens of iconic products that are characterized by their ingenuity, functionality and aesthetics. Their collaboration began after Achille joined the studio that Pier Giacomo ran with his older brother Livio in 1944. After Livio left in 1952, Achille and Pier Giacomo formed an inseparable team until Pier Giacomo's death in 1968. Among their most famous creations is the Arco light, which is still in production today and has become a symbol of the design intelligence of post-war Italy.
