The Mezzaluna Floor light from the French brand DCW éditions is a design icon. Designed by Bruno Gecchelin, winner of two Compasso d'Oro awards, it was created in 1975 and instantly won architectural acclaim for its powerful light output, dimmer and bold aesthetic. In 2024, Mezzaluna returns in a modern LED version that is even more powerful, energy efficient and retains its distinctive character. Designed to illuminate an entire space, the luminaire offers adjustable light intensity up to 6000 lm with a sliding dimmer, a choice of atmospheres thanks to interchangeable filters for 3000 K / 2700 K / 2300 K light temperature, a height-adjustable telescopic structure ranging from 184-221 cm, and a rotatable head for precise light direction. In addition to the original white and black, the new colour options of chrome, red, yellow and carbon blue are now available, making Mezzaluna not only a functional but also a striking sculptural element of the interior.

Mezzaluna was created in 1975 as a halogen light and immediately became a symbol of a technically daring approach to light. The new 2024 LED version retains the original distinctive shape and character, but delivers significantly higher light output, lower energy consumption and a longer lifetime, combining timeless design with the demands of contemporary interiors.

Light tailored to the space and mood

One of Mezzaluna's greatest strengths is its adaptability. The light intensity can be infinitely adjusted up to 6000 lm, the light temperature can be changed with interchangeable filters and the height and direction of the light can be easily adapted to the specific space. This allows Mezzaluna to create both functional lighting for the entire interior and a more intimate atmosphere according to the current needs.

Designed by Bruno Gecchelin

Bruno Gecchelin is one of the outstanding personalities of Italian design of the 1970s and 1980s, especially in the field of lighting, where his work is at the borderline between industrial design and timeless aesthetics. He gained international recognition for his iconic Mezzaluna floor, designed in 1975, which became not only a commercial bestseller but also an iconic object and a reference for Italian design of its time. Gecchelin began his career in 1962 at Olivetti, where he worked with Ettore Sottsass, alongside whom he worked for fifteen years. In the mid-1970s he founded his own studio in Milan and established long-term collaborations with major brands such as Arteluce, Venini, Poltrona Frau, Tronconi and O-Luce. Another important chapter of his work is his collaboration with Guzzini, which was awarded two prestigious Compasso d'Oro prizes in 1988 and 2002, confirming his fundamental contribution to Italian design.
