Snoopy by Italian company Flos is an iconic table providing direct light, designed in 1967 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. It combines functionality with subtle humour - its shape is reminiscent of the famous cartoon dog Snoopy, from which it takes its name. The lamp has a sloping base in white Carrara marble and an enamelled metal reflector, creating an elegant but playful visual impact. Thanks to the then groundbreaking incorporation of technology into the marble base and perfectly balanced construction, Snoopy has become a timeless symbol of savvy Italian design.

Sophisticated light geometry

The bottom plane of the Snoopy lamp reflector and supporting glass are precisely aligned perpendicular to the inclined cylinder of the marble base, directing the light almost exclusively onto the work surface while limiting illumination on the opposite side. This thoughtful design enhances functionality without compromising style. The unmistakable snout-shaped reflector, inspired by the famous comic book hero Snoopy, hides an inner white finish that serves as a diffuser and ensures the light is evenly dispersed across the entire table surface.

Traditional look, modern technology

This new version of the Snoopy lamp stays true to the original model - it retains the cylindrical base made of precious Italian white Carrara marble with its typical veining and three cooling holes that resemble the grip on a bowling ball. Originally, the marble base housed a mechanical switch and an electronic dimmer to control the light intensity - a very innovative feature for its time. Today, this function is provided by a modern touch dimmer that allows convenient and smooth control of the light.

Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1913-1968) were important Italian designers and architects who made an indelible mark on the history of modern design. Together they created dozens of iconic products that are characterized by their ingenuity, functionality and aesthetics. Their collaboration began after Achille joined the studio that Pier Giacomo ran with his older brother Livio in 1944. After Livio left in 1952, Achille and Pier Giacomo formed an inseparable team until Pier Giacomo's death in 1968. Among their most famous creations is the Arco light, which is still in production today and has become a symbol of the design intelligence of post-war Italy.
